The Community Foundation

What drew you to public relations?

In college I was originally interested in broadcast journalism, but changed my mind as public relations began to grow on me. Then I got my first job working for a small boutique PR firm in Los Angeles and it was a great experience working with clients seeking publicity for worthy causes.  This naturally led me to work for nonprofit organizations where I eventually joined United Way of Greater Los Angeles and AARP.

What are your favorite digital tools for work?

Some of my favorite digital tools are Hootsuite and Canva. And, creating videos using Fiverr. What a cool and inexpensive tool!

 What’s your proudest PR accomplishment?

One of my proudest accomplishments is leading the creation of The Community Foundation’s 2015 Annual Report this year. It’s a great publication that helps us tell our story in a visually and impactful way.

Describe a media hit that’s most memorable to you.

In my current job with The Community Foundation I am most proud of the feature article we have in the fall issue of Riverside Magazine. It’s a wonderful profile on the Foundation celebrating 75 years of philanthropy in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

What do you love most about working in PR?

I love telling stories that motivate people to take action. I’ve seen first-hand what public information campaigns can do. They arm people with information that can improve their lives, whether they’re seeking health and financial information or looking for ways to support their community. That’s why I enjoy working in PR and particularly within the nonprofit sector. Meeting a celebrity or two has made the job fun over the years as well!

 What is your favorite quote?

We must not assume a door is closed- we must push on it. We must not assume that if it was closed yesterday it’s closed today. – Marian Wright Edelman, Founding Director of the Children’s Defense Fund.
