PRSA Inland Empire History and Governance
Formed in 1965, PRSA Inland Empire serves to bring together public relations professionals throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Governance of the Inland Empire chapter is by a local Board of Directors made up of persons who hold the offices of President, Immediate Past president, Vice President (Membership, Communications, and Special Projects), Secretary, Treasurer, Directors-at-large, and chairs of the chapter's ad hoc committees.
The PRSA Inland Empire chapter is one of 10 chapters in the PRSA's Western District, which is comprised of the states of California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, and Hawaii.
The Public Relations Society of America, headquartered in New York City, is the world's largest professional organization for public relations professionals. PRSA Inland Empire provides monthly programming to members and non-members, covering a wide variety of public relations topics that include: crisis communications, social media tactics, media pitching and relations, brand development, public affairs campaigns, and so much more. Monthly programming is typically held in the form of professional development luncheons on the third Wednesday of every month, unless otherwise specified.
Working Toward a More Diverse Profession
PRSA Inland Empire supports diversity and inclusion in the public relations profession. While the practice of public relations in the U.S. has undergone dramatic changes, a lack of diversity in communications management positions persists. Studies suggest that the industry still struggles to attract young Black, Asian and Hispanic professionals to pursue public relations as their career of choice.
Our chapter Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Committee co-chairs work with PRSA's national Diversity & Inclusion Committee to build consciousness by increasing visibility of D&I standards, resources and best practices for racial, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation, and gender differences; as well as diverse skill sets, mindsets, and cultures at all levels of the organization.
The D&I Committee works closely with the PRSA Fountation, which helps drive diversity within the industry of public relations by funding numerous research initiatives from underserved populations, PR firms and employees.
D&I Committee co-chairs, along with our Board of Directors, are working to provide opportunities for our members to promote and advance diversity.
